Hike to Lake Dorothy July 24, 2011…

My first hike of the season, I am sad to report. Normally I would have gotten a few more hikes by this time of the year. But I can’t complain as I have been itching for a while to get outdoors and on a trail. Probably not the best trail to do for a first one since my lung capacity isnt what it should be, but no need to worry about that now. Fourth of July Trailhead is our starting point and getting there alone is an adventure in itself as it is 4 miles of bumpy dirt road. If you dont have a four wheel drive vehicle, then you’re really in for a rough ride to the trailhead and that is an understatement.

As I have said before in the “About” section of this blog, I am creating this blog on the fly. So as you see here in this post, I have included a slideshow of some of my photos. Do you like the slideshow or would you rather a gallery of photos instead? Please let me know your thoughts.

All and all it was a gorgeous day to be on a trail. The weather was perfect. There were plenty of people on the trail which in my opinion makes it more interesting and more of an adventure. This trail is dog friendly and dogs should be on a leash, but there were plenty of owners who disobeyed this law. We were looking forward to Lake Dorothy itself, but when you reach the alpine tundra of Arapaho Pass Trail, you get an awesome view in all directions looking around the Continental Divide. A definite plus to this hike!

I ended up taking over 100 pictures this day and luckily for me that I had brought my backup camera, as I didnt get a chance to charge the batteries in my main camera. If you’re wondering what I use, my main camera is an Olympus SP-565UZ,(10 megapixel and 20x optical zoom). My backup is a pocketsize point and shoot Olympus Stylus 9000(12 megapixel, 10x optical zoom).

  1. Thanks! I think I am going to provide both the slideshow and the gallery. Once I finish adding more photos from older hikes under the Photos tab, then I will concentrate on adding the more recent photos.
